Chaturshringi Temple, Maharashtra;
The history of the temple dates back to the times of famous Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. It’s said that there once lived a rich Peshwa named Durlabhsheth Pitambardas Mahajan. He was a great devotee of Devi Saptashringee. He used to travel almost 300kms, on every full moon of Chaitra month, to take the darshan of Goddess. But as the time passed and as he grew older, he was not able to go to the temple and so he became very sad. Because of his true devotion, Goddess presented herself in front of him and said that she will live near him, in the mountain of North-West Pune. Goddess asked him to dig in at this place, where he would find a statue of Devi. Durlabhsheth went to this place and digged out at the mentioned mountain and finally found the statue of Devi. Afterwards, Durlabhsheth built a temple over here, where he used to visit daily and worship Goddess with full faith. And now, this place is famous as Chaturshringi Temple.
