The Chakreshwar Mahadev Mandir is a very ancient shrine of Lord Shiva. This is a relatively small temple and is noted as the holy place where Swami Samarth performed dhyanam, pratiṣhṭha of a Ram Mandir near-by and blessed a śiṣhya who undertook a sajiva samadhi at this very place.

Sopara is one of the most historically rich cities of Maharashtra. Situated closely to Mumbai and being the coastal place it is. Sopara was an extremely well-to-do port at the western coastline of the country since the beginning of the first millennium B.C. It continued to be so till as late as 15th century A.D approximately. Several historians have also disregarded this theory but several have accepted it as a fact about Sopara. Since 1882 AD and after the interest of the British government and their archeological curiosity, the place has been constantly scanned by archaeologists to bring to surface rich findings spread over an area.
The northwest part of Sopara holds another element of its natural beauty called the Chakreshwar lake. The lake and The Chakreshwar Mahadev Temple are distinguished vestiges of a Hindu temple and memorial stones. Historians have still not been able to decipher the exact era of the commissioning or formation of the temple. Something noticeable about the history of the otherwise humble temple is the fact that the temple was once burgled upon, The burglars took a step further and dumped several idols and antiques into the nearly Chakreshwar Lake . The relics of the temple were later recovered from the lake and were established at their rightful place.
People aren’t very sure of the time or era when the shrine was built, but most of them agree on the fact that the Chakreshwar Mahadev Mandir is an extremely ancient shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is not a huge one and stands on a small piece of land but it is far and wide well-known as the holy place where Swami Samarth performed his dhyan and pratishtha of a Ram Mandir (temple dedicated to Lord Rama) close by and subsequently he blessed a Shishya who went on to take a ‘SajivSamadh’ at this very place.
By Road: The temple present in Nalasopara. We can reach the Temple easily by hiring bus or taxi from anywhere in the Maharashtra or from neighboring state. Maharashtra is connected with most of the Indian cities by road. The Maharashtra State Transport Corporation (MSTC) runs regulars bus service in the city.
By Rail: The nearest Railway Station to the temple is Mumbai railway station.
By Air: The Temple can be reached through nearest Mumbai Airport which is well connected with regular domestic flights to Delhi, Mumbai.
Temple remains open from 6am to 9pm. During this period major rituals of Lord Shiva are performed. Mahashiva Ratri is celebrated at a grand scale in this temple
The festivities celebrated at the temple are Ram Navami/Swaminarayan Jayanti, Janmashtami, Vaman Jayanti, Nrisinha Jayanti, Mahashivratri, Ganesh Chaturthi, etc. Apart from these, the festival of Hindola is also celebrated as part of festivities during the month of Shravan in the Indian Calendar.
Nala Sopara, being the coastal place it is remains humid for the major part of the year. The best time to venture into NalaSopara is to reach here in July – August during the famous Maharashtrian Monsoon to enjoy the pilgrimage in good weather.
