Mazhuvannur Shiva temple is positioned in Wayanad district in the state of Kerala, India. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This is a major temple for Lord Shiva in the area. The temple is maintained by the members of the Mazhuvannur Thekke Illam family.

The Legend says that Lord Shiva appeared in front of Banasura, pleased with his hard tapasyas. Banasura asked Lord Shiva to stand as a guard to his Kingdom. As soon as the boon was granted, Lord Shiva and his consort Goddess Parvathi stood as the divine guards to his Kingdom. Chithralekha, the daughter of Banasura fell for Anirudhan, the son of Lord Sreekrishna. One day Anirudhan reached the Banasura Kingdom, in order to meet his lady love, where he was stopped by Lord Shiva. During the fight, Lord Shiva threw his axe and that axe is believed to have fallen in Mazhuvannur. Also, Parasurama is believed to have done the found the temple.
All the important festivals owing to Lord Shiva is followed in this temple. Besides, the prominent festivals of Kerala namely Onam, Vishu and so on are celebrated widely in the temple premises.
The Presiding deity of the temple is Lord Shiva. Other deities present in this temple are Goddess Arayil Bhagavathy, Goddess Shri Durga, Lord Ayyappa and Lord Ganapthy. Daily Poojas are performed regularly in the temple. During festival times like Onam, Vishu, Aaayudha pooja and so on, special poojas are carried out. During the sabarimala season, daily evening pooja is performed. During the Sabari mala season, Bhajana and special prayers are performed, attracting large number of devotees. Recently the temple committee has started giving “Annadanam” on First Sunday of each calendar month.

The temple is well connected by roads. Buses, taxis and auto-rickshaws are available frequently to reach the temple. From Tharuvana it is one kilometer away, and transport is available round the clock.
