The Kodanda Rama Swamy Temple started construction in 1765 by a Sri Dodla Rami Reddy, also known as ‘Bangaru Rami Reddy’ (శ్రీ బంగారు రామి రెడ్డి), a member of the family which establishedBuchireddipalem somewhere about 1715-16. It was completed in the year 1784. Since then, Bramhotsavams (బ్రహ్మొత్సవము) are held every year, commencing on the Sri Rama Navami (శ్రీరామ నవమి) day, which falls in the Chaitra month of the Hindu calendar.
Sri Kodandarama Swamy Temple is a famous temple in Tirupati. Lord Sri Kodandarama temple in Tirupati is an ancient temple. This temple is in a serene atmosphere and is a must see temple for Tirumala pilgrims. The presiding deity in this temple is Lord Sri Rama in the form of Kodandarama Swamy with His consort Sitamma and brother Lakshmana.

Sri Kodandarama Swamy Temple in Tirupati was built by Chola Kings in 10th century AD. This great temple has a history of more than one thousand years. This temple was renovated and well-developed by various kings during 15th century reign of Sri Krishnadevaraya. We can see the symbols and Raja Mudrikas of Vijaya Nagara dynasty here on the rock walls of the outer Mandapas. The temple has a tall and royal compound wall.
There is a legend which tells the temple importance. Jambhavanta, an elderly wise vanara in the kingdom of Sugreeva once saw a cave here and the brightest light was coming out of the case. He asked Lord Sri Rama of what it was. Lord Rama said, it is the Light of God. Jambavanta then established god’s idol there and worshiped Him. By this legend, this temple is said to have been in existence since Treta Yuga in which period Lord Ram Lived.
This Ramalayam is situated within a distance of one km from Tirupati railway station. There are plenty of autos from there. There is an Anjaneya swamy temple just opposite to the temple. Visitors of Rama temple are also worshiped the Anjaneya Swamy. Alipiri, The starting point of the Tirumala foot way is very near from this temple. A beautiful park is at the opposite to the Rama temple. That was the pond of Kodanda Rama temple before 20 years. This temple is the third important temple in Tirupati after Govinda Raja Swamy temple and Kapila Theertham the great Shiva temple.
Sri Chaturbuja Lakshmi Ammavaru: Every Friday Abhishekam (అభిషేకం) is performed to the Goddess Sri Prasanna Anjaneya Swamy: On every Saturday Abhishekam (అభిషేకం) is performed to the Lord. In addition there is a ‘Palanquin seva’ (పల్లకీసేవ) round the inner precinct of the main temple by the devotees.
On every Pournami day ‘Annadanam'(‘అన్నదానం’) is carried out by the Sri Kodandaramaswamy Charitable Trust, the devotees visiting the temple are fed on that day. On every Friday prior to the ‘New Moon Night’ (అమావస్య) ‘Palanquin seva’ (పల్లకీ సేవ)round the inner precinct of the main temple is offered to the Goddess Sri Chaturbuja Lakshmi ammavaaru. On ‘Punarvasu’ star (పునర్వసునక్షత్రం) day abhishekam (అభిషేకం)is performed to the main deities Sri Kodandarama Swamy, Sethammavaaru, Lakshmana Swamy in the temple.
