Chitrakoot Shakti Peeth is located in Chitrakoot (Ramgiri) in Uttar Pradesh. Chitrakoot town is home of several ancient temples mentioned in Hindu Scriptures. Chitrakoot area borders Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
Shakti Peeth Chitrakoot has been formed as the right breast of Mata Sati had fallen down in this place making is really sacred. According to people with other opinion, Devi’s nala had fall down in this particular place. Nala is known as the bone which of the abdomen of an individual. The idol of Devi over here is known as Shivani and Lord Shiva is known as chanda.
Chitrakoot temple is considered as a very sacred place. Lord Rama, Sita Devi and Lakshmana are said to have spent their eleven and a half years in these forests out of their fourteen years of exile. Several sages, seers such as Atri, Sati Anusuya, Dattatreya, Maharishi Markandeya, Sarbhanga, Sutikshna have meditated here. Lord Brahma, Vishnu and Maheswar also took their incarnations here.
It is also said when Lord Rama performed the Shradda ceremony of his father, all the gods and goddesses came to Chitrakuta to partake of the Shuddhi (i.e. a feast given to all the relatives and friends on the thirteenth day of the death in the family). The first known mention of Chitrakoot is in Valmiki Ramayana. Mahakavi Kalidasa describes Chitrakoot as Ramgiri due to his Bhakthi to Lord Rama. Tulsidas, the saint poet of Hindi is said to have had darshan of Lord Ram at Chitrakoot.
Navratri, Makar Sankranti, Amavasya, Somwati Amavasya, Deepavali, Sharad Poornima, Makar Sankranti and Ramanavi are some of the special occasions when people gather at Chitrakoot for festivities.
Durga Puja is quite famous and celebrated with great enthusiasm here. Another festival that is celebrated with great enthusiasm is the ‘Shivaratri’ and during this day, people keep fast, pour milk on the Shiv Lingam and offers ‘Bail’ (A type of fruit) to the god idol.

A holy poned named Janaki Kund is very nearby to this place and around 3km in the bank of holy river Mandakini. It is believed that taking bath in this water kund or water spring cleans away sins from the believers. Some folks call it as Rajagiri , a well-known Buddhist pilgrimage. The Vulture’s Peak of Rajgir is accepted as this Shakti Peeth. Rajgir has a large number of boiling hot water Kunds and enthusiasts feel hallowed to wash in these Kunds. They are very close to famous Lakshmi Narayan Temple.
Nearest airport is in the Allahabad, and national flights are available till here. For international flights, Delhi is the nearest location. Direct trains are available to Chitrakoot Railway station and various trains ply directly from Delhi to here. Several deluxe bus services are available to Chitrakoot.
