Chandranath Temple, Sitakunda, Bangladesh
Chandranath Temple located on top of the 350 metres high Chandranath hill, is a famous Shakti Peeth located near Sitakunda in Bangladesh where, as per Hindu sacred texts, the right arm of Goddess Sati fell. Sitakunda Chandranath Temple is a holy place of pilgrimage.
There are two idols here, one is of Devi Sati and called as Bhavani. The other idol in this temple is of Lord Shiva Known as the Chandrashekhar. This particular word is depicted for all those individuals who have got a moon at the crown or at the top of their head. As per the belief of many local people, Lord Shiva himself has committed to visit Chandrasekhar Mountain during Kali Yuga. The temple is beautifully made with marble structures and art.
The name, Shakti peeth chattal is related to the location of its establishment. A famous town in Bangladesh, Chatgaon is the establishment point of Shakti peeth chattal. This town is also known as chitagaon by the local people in the particular district.

The Rajmala states that about 800 years ago, Raja Biswambhar Sur, a descendant of the famous Adisur of Gaur, tried to reach Chandranath by sea. The Nigamkalpataru refers to the poet Jayadev living for some time in Chandranath. By the time of Dhanya Manikya, ruler of Tripura, Chandranath received numerous endowments. Dhanya Manikya attempted to remove the idol of Shiva from the temple to his kingdom but failed.
Every year lakhs of devotees visit the Chandranath Temple to take part in the Shiva Chaturdashi Puja. The temple commands a panoramic view and its surroundings are enchanting. The temple’s ancient chariot is well known for its wood carvings.

Sitakunda can be reached from Chittagong by Bus. Then one has to go Sitakunda Bazar. Chandranath hill stands 4 kilometers east from Sitakunda Bazar. Devotees can go to Chandranath hill side on a rickshaw or on foot.

This temple being one of the oldest Hindu temple in the subcontinent is extremely popular and is around 35 km from the Chittagong city.Interestingly there is also a Buddhist temple where in there is a foot imprint of the Lord Buddha. Since it is located on the hill top it is extremely peaceful and takes one to a different level all together. Shiva Chathurdhi festival held during the month of Februray is very popular . And do not forget to visit the hot water spring which is located around 5 km to the north of Sitakunda.
The picturesque view of this temple will never leave my mind. The temple so beautifully made of marble stones and decorated with art work and located at the hill top makes it one of the places i would want to go back to every year. The temple remains open for a long time and hence it was very convenient. We even saw the ancient chariot and it was so well engraved and was so intricate. People come to visit the temple and also to enjoy the natural beauty of nature which goes just beyond words.
A very calm and peaceful place with an elegant temple amidst is something one can expect after coming here. The Chaturdashi Puja is very famous here where in people from different parts of the world come in. A totally refreshing experience.
The Chandranath temple is a beautiful temple located on top of the Chandranath hill. They have 2 idols here one is Sati and the other one is of Lord Shiva called as Chandrashekar as he has a moon on top of his head. A very calm temple and well decorated. The temple can be easily reached too and is very convenient.
Just simple wow….An amazingly beautiful temple which is so calm and so refreshing to the mind. The scenic beauty around this temple is marvelous. The temple remains open for a very long time and it is a must visit place.
